Our highly qualified team of professionals comprise of Nurses, Midwives, Childbirth Educators, International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants and Sleep Specialists who are warm, friendly and above all non-judgemental. In our practice, we cover antenatal education, individualised goals and aims of feeding, normal infant feeding behaviours, sleep and settling support. As a team we are dedicated to the provision of high quality, individualised antenatal, postnatal, lactation and newborn infant care.

Cathy Shortt

Cathy has 25 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse, Midwife and International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant with a particular interest in lactation and parent craft education.   She has three happy, healthy, and active children.  

Having worked extensively overseas, Cathy has a wealth of knowledge that she has brought to her professional practice in Australia. She has worked as a Midwife and Lactation Consultant in the private and public hospital setting and in the home.  

Cathy’s wealth of knowledge and expertise have been sought at Pregnancy and Baby Expos in Sydney for the last 10 years.  She has presented at Expos three times a year in Sydney and given advice to expectant and seasoned mothers. Her expert advice covers the antenatal, postnatal period, newborn baby behaviours, breastfeeding, breastfeeding challenges, breastfeeding preparation, settling and sleep strategies.  She has also featured in Positive Parenting Magazine, Bounty Magazine, Empowered Motherhood Program, the Postnatal Academy Program and Tales from the Fourth Trimester Podcast. 

Cathy is a professional member of Lactation Consultants of Australia and New Zealand (LCANZ) Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) and International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA).   Cathy holds a Bachelor of Nursing, Graduate Diploma in Midwifery (APHRA), is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and has completed the Masterclass of Oral Habilitation of the Breast-feeding Dyad.  

Cathy’s mission is to make parenthood a unique, calm and joyful experience. 

Natalie Spencer (available Saturdays)

Natalie is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and a mother of two boys.  She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a Graduate Diploma of midwifery (Grad Dip).

Natalie has worked for over 10 years to help support women and their families across the full spectrum of the maternity and childbirth care setting, working both in hospital, outpatient clinics and the home setting. She has worked in the USA, Australia and Singapore.

She is passionate about helping women and their families feel empowered through evidence-based education, to make the best and most appropriate decisions when it comes to feeding their babies. 

As a lactation consultant, Natalie takes a non-biased and holistic approach to support you and your baby on your feeding journey no matter where you are at and no matter how you are feeding your baby. Whether you simply need reassurance that feeding is going well, you’re struggling with low supply, your baby won’t latch to the breast or you’re pregnant and wondering if your medical condition will affect breastfeeding – Natalie can support you.

Christine Carter

Christine has been involved in Nursing for more than 35 years and has been a Midwife and Lactation Consultant for 30 years.  

She worked for almost 25 years in the public hospital system as a Midwife, Lactation Consultant and Childbirth Educator. During this time Christine has continued to nurture and raise four children. 

Predominantly working in Lactation Services with families providing breastfeeding education during pregnancy and in the early days with their babies in hospital, visiting families at home, Christine has supported them as they adjusted to their new role as parents or with their growing families.    

Complex breastfeeding problems in the early days in hospital, in Neonatal intensive care and ongoing feeding and parenting issues in the home and  community, have been regularly referred to Christine in recognition of her specialist knowledge and experience as a Lactation Consultant.  

Christine is passionate about supporting families in a holistic way, listening to what their hopes are for feeding and parenting their babies, and responding sensitively in the care she provides. 

She is particularly interested in supporting families, so they feel acknowledged and respected for their unique relationship with their babies. She believes in nurturing and exploring the mental health and wellbeing of families so they can enjoy and flourish as people and parents.  

Christine is committed to providing appropriate, accurate evidence-based information and facilitating access to resources. This includes connecting families to their community and collaborating with other supports they may need as their journey continues. 

 Christine is a Professional member of Lactation Consultants of Australia and New Zealand, the Australian Breastfeeding Association and the International Lactation Consultant Association.  She is a Registered Nurse and Midwife (AHPRA) and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant who has a Master’s in Public Health (UNSW) and a Graduate Certificate in Child and Family Health (Tresillian).  She is currently completing a Certificate IV in Mental Health.   

At present Christine also volunteers for Lifeline and EndStreetSleeping Collaborative and has experience as an ABA Counsellor. 

Carolyn Love

Carolyn brings to Milk & Mums Co extensive expertise and experience in supporting families gained since becoming a Midwife in 1985.  

She is a passionate supporter of antenatal education and has been a Family Educator since 199?. In addition to completing Calmbirth Educator Training and Gottman’s Bringing Baby Home Program Carolyn has provided countless education sessions for parents over the past 30 years.   She is the proud mother of two children. 

Carolyn has worked in the private hospital setting at one of Sydney’s leading Private Hospitals as well as in the home.  She became a Lactation Consultant in 1993 to enable her to provide gentle feeding support for families.  Her approach is kind, calm and reassuring and her goal is to minimise stress at this pivotal time. 

Carolyn is a dynamic practitioner who values working with families from pregnancy through to their early parenting experience.  Her philosophy is that with gentle support in the early parenting period, new families will be able to not just survive but thrive and build a strong and enduring relationship with their baby and each other.
